Week 4, Distance Learning (DL)--September 7--11, 2020
🌺 Good Morning Room 8 `Ohana!
We start the week off with the Labor Day Holiday.
This TUESDAY, we will begin our Guidance Sessions with Mr. Brad Kusunoki, School Counselor. He has his weekly grade 2 sessions with room 8 at 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. each Tuesday for 4 weeks in a row. The counseling program this year is called, "Choose Love." Mr. Kusunoki will work with the students in room 8, to complete this program by the end of 1st quarter. *Don't forget to JOIN Mr. K's Google Classroom! (Check your Email, students!)
Remember to work on BOTH Acellus and iReady lessons. A few of you are forgetting to log into iReady each week and are behind with your lessons. Please do iReady reading and math for 15 minutes each, with a break between the subjects. This has been stated on our class' schedule.
Students, check your Email on a DAILY basis, for reminders and assignments. One student said she checks it on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons, just so that she is ready on Monday morning, or the next school day! This is being a self-directed learner, preparing herself for future grades! Find a system that will work for you!
Parents, thank you for learning alongside your student as well! Some of you have commented that you are now in the know of using "Google" (Gmail, G.Meet, and G.Classroom!) Wow!!! That's so Awesome! I'm proud of you too! It's just a matter of having a growth mindset...try and try again....if Plan A doesn't work, there's always 25 more alphabets to go! LOL
*PS: 2nd Grade packet pick up NEXT week, (September 14 and 15, 8am--2:30 pm; Top of the Main Steps--see Mr. Tyler.....Do NOT go to the office. ) If you can't make it on those dates/times, you need to let me know ASAP.

August 17, 2020
🌺 ALOHA Room 8 `Ohana!
This week's Growth Mindset: Challenges Help Me To Grow!
Welcome to second grade! Glad you found our classroom blog! This is where I'd post up things that are happening in school! Sometimes you'll see pictures, project reminders, and other events. This time I will not have a daily schedule posted. I will, however, have at least one Blog Post per week.
If you didn't see the daily schedule I posted on my webpage, here it is. This week's schedule has been sent to you via email, but this schedule (shown below) will begin on the next full week of school...August 24, 2020.
If you haven't yet done so, please be sure to login to your new Google Classroom! I sent the invite to your email (not the parent's email). Students, check your email on a daily basis. You will be going into Google Classroom on a daily basis, just to check to see if you got a message from me, or if you have a NEW assignment.
Speaking of assignments, you have one that will be due on Wednesday, August 19th. You will need to create a Name plate that clearly shows your FIRST name, on a piece of paper, card-stock, construction paper, or white board, etc... so you can use it on the Google Meet happening on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.
Have fun today! I can't wait to see you all on the 19th! Take care, be safe, and stay active! A hui hou and Much Aloha,
Mrs. Wong

Good Morning Everyone!
Happy STEM-Thursday! Hope you got a chance to make your windsock? Again, for those of you who made your windsock BEFORE I posted the "revised" one with the constraints listed, I apologize, and you do not have to revise yours. Thanks to a parent's question, I had to revert back to the assignment to look at what I posted. I was wondering why she asked me that question, when I thought it was stated in the instructions? Well, it wasn't. 😮😳 So I had to make the correction and repost the assignment. Thank you for understanding.

Then, a few years later, I had some of them again, in my 4th grade homeroom class! It's so exciting to see their academic journey come this far! Celebrating 50 Years of Earth Day!
Happy Earth Day! 🌎
Mālama Honua (Take care of the Earth)
As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, think about the different ways you can help to take care of our beautiful earth. Let's do something small everyday to help take care of the EARTH we live on.
For example, I can help the Earth by conserving electricity. I can use natural lighting as much as possible by opening doors and windows to let the sunshine (natural light) in! I can open up the blinds and curtains and turn off the lights when not in use. I can also unplug electronic devices when I'm not using them. This will all help to conserve electricity!
In the comment box below, please comment on what you will do to help take care of the Earth? Be as detailed as possible.
Explain why?
When done, enjoy this link, 50 Ways to Earth Day! , with your `Ohana!
Distance Learning, Week 4, Day 17
Good Morning Everyone!
Happy Earth 🌎 Day!
I had to get up EXTRA early today. I had a 6:00 a.m. "online" class that I had to attend. Why so early you ask? Well, the instructor lives in New York, so he lives in a time-zone that is 6 hours ahead of us, here in Hawaii.
He presented his webinar class at 12:00 p.m., Eastern time, while I attended at 6:00 a.m. Hawaii Standard time. There are actually 6 time zones recognized in the United States. Four, if you don't include Alaska and Hawaii. Just a little food for thought this morning 😉
